Wychwood School Press Statement GCSE Results 2021
Posted: 12th August 2021
There is so much to be admired in GCSE candidates across the world this year who have demonstrated resilience, persistence and a determination not to be defeated by the pandemic. At Wychwood, we are tremendously proud of our girls’ achievements, which are richly deserved. Our candidates were mostly lucky enough to have been able to remain at remote lessons or in school throughout their courses and they then turned their focus to mocks, exams and mini-assessments with a mature, tenacious and single-minded resolve to do the very best they could. They faced on-going speculation as to the nature of how they would actually be assessed right up to the start of their final term. The directors and staff join me in commending their fortitude and courage.
They have, of course, been assessed in a completely different format to the ones which all previous GCSE candidates have experienced: hence, it is impossible to compare the results from 2021 with any other year group. This mode of assessment has favoured those who work steadily and aggregate their knowledge and skills, as reflected in their excellent results. We congratulate them all and are confident that they go forward well prepared for the next phase of their education. Here I must also pay tribute to the teaching staff who were indomitable in delivering their subjects, to the steadfast admin and support staff who made sure the school ran smoothly and to the committed house and medical staff who kept us all safe with covid19 test administration and monitoring.
No other year group will be likely to experience what these candidates have gone through in the last 18 months – we salute them and are delighted that they have been rewarded justly.
