Five Wychwood girls flexed their debating muscles at Magdalen College School when they attended the Model United Nations conference on the weekend of 2nd and 3rdMarch. This time they represented the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) better known as North Korea.
The conference was opened by guest speaker Olivia Selbie who spoke about her experiences working for the UN Mine Action Service arranging the clearing of mines in Afghanistan and other countries. At the conference there were students from schools across Oxfordshire and further afield like Westminster and Hampton Schools. In their committees, topics like cyberwarfare, discrimination against vegans and deforestation were discussed. As usual the girls had a great time discussing the issues as well as making new friends.
The conference was closed on Sunday afternoon by local MP Annelise Dodd and the girls returned to Wychwood tired but happy.
