LT trip to Oxford Synagogue
Posted: 31st October 2017
Today the LTs visited Oxford synagogue as a part of their Religious Studies course.
Did you know …
The first Jews came over to Britain with William the Conqueror
The Oxford area of St.Aldates was once known as Old Jewry and was where the Jews of Oxford first lived.
Oxford synagogue is unique in accommodating both Orthodox and Progressive Jews.
The congregation can swell to as many as 1000 in term time on Holy days.
Mr Michael Ward of the Jewish congregation introduced the girls to many aspects of Judaism and talked about the links between the three great Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The girls enjoyed asking questions and handling the different artefacts…some even tried on a kippah or yarmulke, worn by Jewish men.
Today is the 10th of Sheshvan, 5778 in the Hebrew calendar.
