LT Bonding trip to Bristol

On the morning of Friday 12^th October, the Lower Transits faced the wrath of Storm Callum and headed to a very wet and windy Bristol. Braving the elements, we began with a whistle-stop tour of some of Bristol’s most interesting street art, learning all about the cultural background of the art and how the city at one time fought against it but now embraces and celebrates it. We then had the opportunity to learn more about the artistic process with a very enjoyable spray-painting workshop.

The afternoon was spent exploring ‘We the Curious’ – Bristol’s renowned science museum, the highlight of which was the ‘Autumn Stars’ 3D show in the planetarium. After an incredible dinner at Zaza Bazaar, where we indulged in Asian, Indian, Italian, Japanese and Jamaican food, we went to the theatre to see Madagascar, the musical, which was a lively and hugely entertaining stage version of one of our favourite childhood films.

Although the rain had eased the following day, our experience of climbing the rigging of the S.S. Great Britain was cancelled. Instead we explored the fascinating and innovative Brunel exhibition before our interesting tour of the ship. After a quick look around the gift shop we caught the bus up to the Clifton Suspension Bridge, which was quite literally hair-raising as it bounced in the strong gusts of wind. After a very welcome stop for ice-cream we headed back to the youth hostel, exhausted after our whirlwind weekend.
