Lower Transits visit Oxford synagogue
Posted: 24th October 2019
As a part of their study of Judaism and identity the Lower Transits visited Oxford synagogue and were given a fascinating insight into Jewish life and teachings. Mr Ward, a senior member of the Oxford congregation, gave an account of his personal experience as well as introducing the girls to aspects of the synagogue including the precious Torah scrolls housed in the ark. He also impressed us with the blowing of the shofar (ram’s horn) used to herald in the Jewish new year (Rosh Hashanah) and other significant times of the year. Unfortunately none of the girls took up his offer to have a go!
