Balenciaga at V&A

Posted: 9th October 2017

On the 24th of September 9 boarders and 2 staff experienced a weekend trip to the Balenciaga Exhibition above the Fashion exhibit in the V and A Museum in London. It was a small but beautiful exhibition on the carefully structured designs of this Spanish designer. All his garments are exquisitely cut transforming very simple shapes into the exotic. His style of pattern cutting has been copied over the last two to three decades and there were examples on the upper floor of modern designs demonstrating this.

There was a working example of a skirt, that the girls could try on demonstrating how it could be worn as skirt or as a cape. It was an excellent example of the cleverness of his pattern cutting. The girls all enjoyed experimenting with trying it, as skirt and a cape.
