Happy Easter!

At the end of this term, where we also end the programme of parents meetings for the year, I was thinking about how very valuable they are – it is when we are in close touch over your daughter’s education and happiness that we can all do our very best for the girls and this is one of the most important things we can do.  However, please do not feel that you are only welcome to discuss matters at parents’ meetings – we are very happy to talk at any time.

Over this last week or two the Study have been thinking about where they are in their educational journey after school examinations in Study I and mock A Levels in Study II. Study II are also beginning to refine their thoughts on which two universities to choose as the offers are coming in thick and fast. My thanks go to the staff who unstintingly prepared them for their final hurdle of secondary education. Both the Shell and the Study have had individual and collective advice from subject staff and parents and staff are all set to ensure that this next critical period flows well. Consistent hard work and revision, coupled with a healthy work-life balance can add one or two grades to most GCSEs and A Level at this stage. I know there are many sessions of revision planned in school over the holidays and look forward to seeing the girls as they drop in.

On a lighter note we have had a marvellous week of performances and sports as the girls demonstrate just how good they are at such a wide range of activities and skills – the Performing Arts evening was a triumph and I would like to thank all of you who contributed so generously to Sisters for Change. Wychfactor was equally enjoyable and very different and seeing the ambition and talent of the girls is always so uplifting. Study I and the Art Historians returned from Rome having immersed themselves in culture (and gelato) and we are now all looking forward to New York in Michaelmas 2018. Dr Williams is THE guide to go with when it comes to Rome – her inside knowledge and insight is second to none and the girls all loved what they saw and experienced, even the ones who would claim not to own an artistic bone in their bodies! The Junior team Maths Challenge sadly had to give way to the House Netball as time caught up with us at the end of term – the House Netball was excellent with Beech winning overall with strong performances across the age ranges and I would like to commend the staff for winning the Staff-Study match against stern, fit and very fast opposition!

During the holidays a number of girls are out and about in Salamanca and we wish them a wonderful trip. In school, we will be welcoming some 30 primary school children for A Journey to Mars with Mrs Stacey. I know they will leave having learned and enjoyed themselves enormously.

Can I please emphasise that all girls should have a jacket – they are not optional. The girls are encouraged to wear them on a daily basis, especially in the cold weather, but are expected to wear them on school trips that are undertaken in uniform and internal events such as Open Morning on 21st April. Please may I also remind you that all girls are expected to attend Open Mornings.

I hope the weather is kind as the forecast for the holidays is not promising at this stage and that you all enjoy a lovely time with your daughters.
